The Botanical Synthesis Quest is another objective you’ll encounter while progressing through the Drylands update in Fisch. Fortunately, this quest is much easier than some of the earlier ones, but it can still be confusing if you don’t know which cacti you’re supposed to collect from.
Not every cactus in the Drylands is useful. You’ll need to find a specific type that contains the quest item you’re looking for.
Here’s how to complete the Botanical Synthesis Quest.
How to Start the Botanical Synthesis Quest
Before collecting anything, make sure you’ve accepted the Botanical Synthesis Quest from the appropriate NPC.
This is important because Cacti Pulps gathered before activating the quest may not count toward your progress.
To avoid having to collect them twice, always start the quest first.
Where to Find Cacti Pulps
Head into the Drylands and begin searching for cactus plants.
However, don’t collect from the first cactus you see.
You’re looking for special cacti with a red growth on top.
The red section is the Cacti Pulp, which can be collected for the quest.
As you explore the desert, keep scanning the tops of nearby cacti. Once you spot the bright red growth, interact with it to collect the pulp.
Be Careful Around the Cactus
One thing the game doesn’t make very obvious is that these cacti can hurt you.
Standing too close to them for too long causes damage, slowly reducing your health because of their sharp spikes.
To stay safe:
- Approach the cactus carefully.
- Collect the Cacti Pulp as quickly as possible.
- Move away immediately after collecting it.
There’s no need to stand beside the cactus once you’ve picked up the item.
How Many Cacti Pulps Do You Need?
To finish the Botanical Synthesis Quest, you’ll need to collect:
20 Cacti Pulps
Keep exploring the Drylands until you’ve gathered all twenty.
If you don’t see enough special cacti in one area, continue exploring the desert, as they can be found in different locations throughout the region.
Previously Collected Pulps May Not Count
A common mistake players make is collecting Cacti Pulps before receiving the quest.
Unfortunately, those earlier collections may not count toward the quest objective.
If your progress isn’t increasing, make sure:
- The Botanical Synthesis Quest is currently active.
- You’re collecting fresh Cacti Pulps after accepting the quest.
Doing this should properly update your quest progress.
The Botanical Synthesis Quest is one of the simpler tasks in the Drylands update once you know what you’re looking for. Instead of interacting with every cactus, focus only on those with the distinctive red pulp growing on top.
Collect 20 Cacti Pulps, avoid taking unnecessary damage from the cactus spikes, and make sure the quest is active before you start gathering. Once you’ve reached the required amount, you’ll be ready to continue the next stage of the Drylands questline.
