Robo-Ky isn’t the kind of character you can simply pick up and mash buttons with. At first glance, his moveset can feel a little strange, but once you understand how his Electric Gauge works, everything starts to click.
Unlike most fighters in Guilty Gear -Strive-, Robo-Ky becomes stronger the better you manage his resources. Build your Electric Gauge, spend it wisely, and you’ll gain access to stronger projectiles, bigger combo opportunities, and dangerous mix-ups that can overwhelm your opponent.
If you’re planning to main Robo-Ky or simply want to understand how he plays, here’s everything you need to know.
Guilty Gear Strive Robo-Ky Guide – Electric Gauge, Combos
The Electric Gauge is the heart of Robo-Ky’s gameplay.
Many of his special moves either build, consume, or benefit from this unique meter. The gauge has three levels, and almost every special move becomes stronger as the gauge increases.
Think of the Electric Gauge as a resource you constantly cycle:
- Build the gauge.
- Spend it on stronger attacks.
- Recharge it before running empty.
Good Robo-Ky players are always planning one or two steps ahead instead of spending all their meter immediately.
Gimmicky
Purpose: Charge your Electric Gauge
Gimmicky places a charging mat directly in front of Robo-Ky.
Standing on this mat slowly increases your Electric Gauge, making it one of the safest ways to prepare for stronger attacks.
The best times to use Gimmicky are:
- After knocking your opponent down.
- When your opponent is playing defensively.
- During long-range neutral situations.
Don’t try using it while your opponent is rushing toward you, as you’ll usually be punished before gaining much charge.
Junky Bargain
Purpose: Long-range projectile
Junky Bargain fires a projectile across the screen and consumes Electric Gauge when activated.
Its strength changes depending on your current gauge level.
Level 1
A standard projectile that’s useful for poking from a distance.
Level 2
The projectile begins tracking your opponent’s position, making it much harder to avoid.
Level 3
The attack becomes significantly stronger by releasing multiple projectiles, creating excellent pressure and extending corner combos.
Because of its versatility, Junky Bargain works well both as a zoning tool and as combo filler.
Kaizan Blitz
Purpose: Forward pressure and gauge management
Kaizan Blitz is a lunging attack that quickly closes distance.
When it connects, Robo-Ky automatically performs a follow-up attack.
Its behavior depends on your Electric Gauge.
Levels 1–2
The move helps build additional Electric Gauge after hitting the opponent.
Level 3
Instead of charging more energy, Robo-Ky performs a much stronger follow-up that knocks the opponent down, giving you time to begin charging again.
This makes Kaizan Blitz an excellent bridge between offense and resource management.
Sparky Surprise
Purpose: Command grab
Sparky Surprise is Robo-Ky’s command throw.
Unlike normal strikes, it cannot be blocked.
However, there’s a catch.
You must be extremely close to your opponent, and if the grab misses, you’re left completely vulnerable.
Landing it successfully rewards you by increasing your Electric Gauge while dealing solid damage.
Use it after conditioning opponents to sit still and block.
Lucky Launcher
Purpose: Combo starter
Lucky Launcher sends opponents high into the air.
The move becomes stronger as your Electric Gauge increases.
Level 1
Launches opponents for limited follow-up opportunities.
Level 2
Creates enough launch height to continue juggling with additional attacks.
Level 3
Launches opponents even higher, opening the door for some of Robo-Ky’s highest-damage combo routes.
Whenever possible, try saving this move for Level 2 or Level 3 to maximize damage.
Beautiful Sky Today
Purpose: Mobility and overhead mix-up
Beautiful Sky Today allows Robo-Ky to fly upward and move freely for a short period.
During flight, you can control your movement using directional inputs.
At Level 2 or higher, Robo-Ky can attack almost immediately after activating the move.
This creates a threatening overhead option that catches defensive opponents expecting a grounded attack.
Mix this move with command grabs and grounded pressure to keep opponents guessing.
What’s Useless Will Always Be So
Purpose: Multi-hit super attack
This Overdrive unleashes a continuous series of attacks while draining the Electric Gauge.
The more Electric Gauge you have when activating it, the longer the attack lasts and the more damage it deals.
The final attack happens when:
- Your Electric Gauge reaches zero.
- You manually finish the attack by pressing Heavy Slash.
Using this move with a nearly full gauge dramatically increases its effectiveness.
Risky Lovers
Purpose: Temporary power-up
Risky Lovers activates Robo-Ky’s Hercules Engine.
Once active, every special move becomes significantly stronger.
The downside is that your Electric Gauge constantly drains during the effect.
When the gauge finally reaches zero, Robo-Ky explodes.
Unfortunately, that explosion damages both your opponent and yourself, so poor timing can easily cost you a round.
Because of this, Risky Lovers is best used when:
- You already have offensive momentum.
- Your opponent is trapped in the corner.
- You can finish the round before the explosion becomes a problem.
Basic Game Plan for Robo-Ky
If you’re just learning the character, here’s a simple strategy that works well.
Step 1: Build Your Electric Gauge
Use your long-range Heavy Slash to keep opponents at a distance.
Whenever you create space or score a knockdown, place Gimmicky and begin charging.
Step 2: Control Neutral
Once you’ve built enough gauge, throw out Junky Bargain.
The projectile helps protect your approach while forcing your opponent to react.
Higher Electric Gauge levels make this much stronger.
Step 3: Apply Pressure
Once you’re close, begin mixing together:
- Kaizan Blitz
- Beautiful Sky Today
- Sparky Surprise
This combination forces opponents to guess between strikes, overhead attacks, and command grabs.
Step 4: Cash Out
Once you’ve reached higher Electric Gauge levels, finish your offense using:
- Lucky Launcher combos
- What’s Useless Will Always Be So
- Risky Lovers when you’re confident you can maintain pressure
Robo-Ky is one of the more technical characters in Guilty Gear -Strive-, but he’s also incredibly rewarding once you understand his rhythm. Instead of relying on constant aggression, you’ll spend matches carefully building your Electric Gauge, looking for the perfect moment to unleash enhanced specials and devastating combos.
If you’re willing to practice meter management and learn when to build versus when to spend, Robo-Ky has all the tools needed to control neutral, pressure opponents, and deal massive damage when the opportunity presents itself.
