Hearth and Hamlet Achievement Guide 100% – How to Unlock

Before starting, there are two important things you should know:
- Steadfast Resolve is missable because you must avoid trading with Ashenholt.
- Flawless Victory is missable because you must complete the game without suffering any defeats.
- Difficulty-specific achievements require you to complete the game on the corresponding difficulty.
- If you’re new to the game, Gentle difficulty is a good way to learn the basic mechanics.
- If you want a challenge from the beginning, you can start on Intense.
Humble Beginning
How to unlock: Take your first steps and begin founding your settlement.
This is one of the earliest achievements you’ll unlock. Simply start developing your settlement and begin the process of establishing your new home.
You don’t need to do anything complicated here. Follow the early objectives and start building your settlement.
A Place to Call Home
How to unlock: Construct initial housing for your villagers.
Once you begin developing your settlement, you’ll need to provide housing for your villagers.
Build your initial homes and this achievement should unlock naturally as you progress.
If you’re following the game’s early progression, this is another achievement you shouldn’t have much trouble with.
Hearth and Hamlet
How to unlock: Successfully establish your basic hamlet.
Continue developing your settlement until you officially establish your basic hamlet.
This achievement is tied to your early settlement progression, so you should unlock it naturally while following the game’s main objectives.
First Contact
How to unlock: Establish contact with neighboring realms.
As your settlement grows, you’ll eventually begin interacting with neighboring realms.
Establish contact with them to unlock First Contact.
If you’re working toward the later trading achievements, you’ll need to interact with other realms anyway, so this should come naturally during your playthrough.
Coin for the Realm
How to unlock: Generate your first significant trade revenue.
Once trading becomes available, start completing commercial activities and generating income for your settlement.
Your first meaningful trade revenue will unlock this achievement.
This is also a good point to start paying attention to your trading options because several other achievements involve commerce.
A Merchant’s Tale
How to unlock: Complete trade routes and commercial deals.
Continue using the trading system and complete your available trade routes and commercial deals.
Don’t ignore trade after unlocking Coin for the Realm, as you’ll need additional trading progress for later achievements.
Educated Minds
How to unlock: Construct facilities dedicated to education and research.
Develop your settlement beyond basic survival by constructing facilities focused on education and research.
Once the required facilities are built, Educated Minds will unlock.
Keep expanding your settlement if the necessary buildings aren’t available immediately.
Walls of Stone
How to unlock: Fortify your settlement with sturdy stone walls.
Defensive construction becomes increasingly important as your settlement grows.
Build the required stone walls around your settlement to unlock Walls of Stone.
It’s worth working on your defenses early rather than waiting until you’re already dealing with enemy attacks.
He’s a Wizard
How to unlock: Unlock and recruit a wizard for your kingdom.
Continue progressing through the game until you gain access to the wizard.
Once you’ve unlocked the required progression and recruited the wizard, the achievement will unlock.
This is part of the game’s later development, so don’t worry if you can’t access it during the early settlement stages.
Just Pay It With Magic
How to unlock: Use magical resources to settle realm costs or events.
After gaining access to the game’s magical systems, you’ll eventually have opportunities to use magical resources for costs or events.
Choose the appropriate magical option when it becomes available to unlock Just Pay It With Magic.
Merchant Kingdom
How to unlock: Trade with Distant Kingdoms 20 times.
This achievement requires more grinding than the earlier trading achievements.
You need to complete trades with Distant Kingdoms 20 times.
Keep using the trading system whenever opportunities are available. If you’re already working on your economy and other trading achievements, you can make progress toward this one naturally.
A City Rises
How to unlock: Expand and develop your settlement into a thriving city.
Keep upgrading your settlement and expanding its infrastructure until it develops into a city.
This is a progression-based achievement, so you don’t need to rush it. Continue improving your settlement and meeting the game’s development requirements.
Standing Strong
How to unlock: Successfully withstand and repel enemy assaults.
At some point, your settlement will have to deal with enemy attacks.
Make sure your defenses are strong enough to survive the assault and successfully repel the attackers.
This is particularly important if you’re also working toward Flawless Victory, because suffering a defeat can prevent you from earning that achievement during the same run.
My Home and Castle
How to unlock: Construct and upgrade your primary castle fortress.
Continue developing your settlement until you can construct your primary castle fortress.
Build it and upgrade it as required to unlock My Home and Castle.
Your castle also plays an important role in the overall development of your kingdom, so this is part of your natural progression toward the later achievements.
Ancient Evil
How to unlock: Overcome and defeat the ancient evil threat.
This is one of the major progression and combat achievements.
Continue through the game until you encounter the ancient evil threat, then defeat it to unlock the achievement.
Make sure your settlement and defenses are prepared before taking on major threats, especially if you’re attempting a no-defeat run.
We Love It Here!
How to unlock: Reach a happiness of 200%.
For this achievement, you need to push your settlement’s happiness all the way to 200%.
Focus on improving the conditions of your settlement and providing what your villagers need.
If your happiness is stuck below 200%, continue upgrading your settlement and improving the available facilities until you reach the required level.
A Kingdom Is Born
How to unlock: Elevate your settlement to the status of a full Kingdom.
Keep expanding and upgrading your settlement until you reach the point where it can officially become a kingdom.
This is a major progression milestone, so you’ll likely unlock it while working through the game’s later stages.
Gentle Rule
How to unlock: Complete the game on Gentle difficulty.
Start a game on Gentle difficulty and complete the game.
This is the easiest difficulty-specific achievement and can be a good choice if you’re learning the game for the first time.
If you’re primarily interested in getting your first 100% completion, Gentle difficulty is the safest place to start.
Master Builder
How to unlock: Fully upgrade your city.
Continue upgrading your city until all required upgrades are completed.
This achievement is more focused on settlement development, so concentrate on gathering resources and improving your infrastructure throughout the game.
Steady Hands
How to unlock: Complete the game on Steady difficulty.
Complete the game while playing on Steady difficulty.
If you’re already comfortable with the game after a Gentle playthrough, Steady is a natural step up.
Flawless Victory
How to unlock: Win the game without suffering any defeats.
This is one of the two achievements you need to plan for before starting your playthrough.
You must complete the game without suffering any defeats.
That means you should take your defenses seriously throughout the entire run. Don’t wait until the settlement is already under attack before preparing.
Build your defenses, keep your settlement prepared and avoid unnecessary risks.
If you’re specifically going for 100% completion, consider making Flawless Victory a priority from the beginning rather than trying to get it later.
Rising Challenge
How to unlock: Complete the game on Challenging difficulty.
Complete the game on Challenging difficulty.
The higher difficulty means you’ll need to pay more attention to your settlement, defenses and overall progression.
Make sure you’re comfortable with the game’s basic systems before attempting this difficulty.
Steadfast Resolve
How to unlock: Complete the game without ever trading with Ashenholt.
This is the other major missable achievement.
For the entire playthrough, you must avoid conducting any trade with Ashenholt.
The safest approach is to decide that you’re going for this achievement before starting your run. Whenever you’re presented with trading options, carefully check the trading partner before accepting.
Do not accidentally complete a trade with Ashenholt and assume you can recover later.
If you’re planning a dedicated 100% run, keep this restriction in mind from the very beginning.
Against the Odds
How to unlock: Complete the game on Intense difficulty.
Complete the game on Intense difficulty to unlock the final difficulty-based achievement.
This is the toughest difficulty achievement in the guide, so make sure you understand the settlement, economy and defensive systems before attempting it.
If you’re new to Hearth and Hamlet, there is no need to start here unless you specifically want the challenge.
Best Way to Get 100% Achievements
If you’re mainly interested in completing all 24 achievements, planning your playthroughs can save you from unnecessary repetition.
For your first run, Gentle difficulty is a good option because you can learn the settlement systems and unlock many of the progression-based achievements without putting too much pressure on yourself.
If you want to combine achievements where possible, pay particular attention to Steadfast Resolve and Flawless Victory. Both have special requirements that can be missed.
For Steadfast Resolve, never trade with Ashenholt.
For Flawless Victory, never suffer a defeat.
The remaining achievements mostly come from normal settlement development, trading, exploration, combat and completing the game on different difficulties.
Getting all 24 Hearth and Hamlet achievements is fairly manageable, especially if you understand the two missable achievements before starting.
The biggest things to remember are simple: don’t trade with Ashenholt if you’re going for Steadfast Resolve, and don’t suffer a defeat if you’re targeting Flawless Victory.
For everything else, focus on developing your settlement, improving your economy and defenses, completing the game’s major progression milestones and finishing the game on each required difficulty. With a little planning, reaching 100% should be a straightforward 5–10 hour project.
