I’m going to be real with you, if you’re staring at the class selection screen right now and thinking “what do I even pick?”, you’re not alone.
Season 9 made this problem worse (in a good way). Almost everything feels viable, a lot of classes got stronger, and now instead of having 2–3 obvious picks… you’ve got too many good ones.
So instead of overcomplicating things, let’s break this down the way you actually need it — which classes feel smooth, which ones won’t frustrate you early, and which ones can carry you all the way without regrets.
Best Starter Classes for Beginners
These are the classes you can pick without overthinking. They’re forgiving, strong early, and scale well.
Demon Spawn
If someone asked me, “just tell me one class and I’ll play it” — this is it.
- Super smooth leveling after level 8
- Strong AoE + solid single target
- Built-in defenses make it forgiving
- Doesn’t need crazy gear early
Only downside:
- Mobility is a bit limited early on
But honestly? It doesn’t matter much because everything just dies anyway.
Paladin
Paladin is that class where you just feel safe all the time.
- High survivability
- Self-healing + damage reduction
- Multiple builds (Lightning, Arcane, Hybrid)
- Easy to understand and scale
It’s not flashy, but it’s reliable — and for a new season, that’s exactly what you want.
Pirate
A lot of people are sleeping on this one.
Early game:
- Slightly slower until you unlock key skills
After that:
- Anchor Swing basically clears your entire screen
- Strong scaling into endgame
- Multiple build paths later (Cannonball / Minion)
Once it gets going, it really gets going.
Jotunn
This class feels a bit slow at first… then suddenly becomes insane.
- Level 16 → Orb of Frost unlock = game changer
- Level 24 → teleport = mobility solved
- Strong boss damage + clearing
- Ignores on-death effects (huge quality-of-life)
Very smooth progression once it kicks in.
Illusionist
If your goal is to fly through the campaign, this is top-tier.
- Uses one main skill from level 1 → 100
- Great AoE + solid single target
- Auto-targeting makes gameplay easy
- One of the best teleports early on
Also:
- Strong survivability from minions
- Very fast map clearing
This is the kind of class where you barely feel stuck at any point.
Strong
These are powerful, but you need a bit of understanding to get full value.
White Mage
- Very safe gameplay
- Strong leveling options
- Becomes really strong after some hero levels
Small catch:
- Needs a bit of grind (around hero level 30+) to fully shine
Still a very solid choice overall.
Bard
This one is interesting.
Early game:
- Play as Lightning caster (very smooth)
Later:
- Transition into Flicker Strike-style gameplay
- Fast, flashy, high damage
But:
- Requires proper gear to feel good
- Not the easiest transition for beginners
If you like fast-paced gameplay, though, this is one of the coolest builds.
Marauder
- Strong physical build (Heavy Ball)
- Works early without heavy gear
- Scales hard into endgame
This is one of those “just hits hard and keeps working” classes.
Exo
Exo is way better than people think.
- Solar Dash = insane mobility
- Clears maps while moving
- Transitions into Black Hole build later
Great for:
- Farming
- Speedrunning maps
- Chaos Tower grinding
Takes a bit of getting used to early, but very rewarding.
Stormweaver
This one is going to be very popular.
- Extremely fast clear speed
- High damage scaling
- Multiple build options
But:
- Low survivability if you don’t play carefully
If you’re confident in dodging and positioning, this is top-tier.
Samurai
- Explosive Kunai build = huge scaling
- Fast movement with dashes
- Strong late-game potential
Downside:
- Early leveling can feel awkward
- Requires understanding of mechanics
This is more of a “second character” for many players.
