This LockYourDoor Walkthrough and Beginner Guide Wiki is meant for players who want a clear and reliable path through LockYourDoor without spoiling the entire sense of discovery. It explains each day, how progression works, how monsters behave, and how to survive long enough to reach the end. Read only as much as you need; the game relies heavily on tension and exploration, so use this guide wisely.
Minimum Days Required to Finish the Game
LockYourDoor is structured around daily progression. Certain rooms, events, and items only appear or become accessible on specific days, so your route through the mansion follows a natural timeline. Here is the most efficient day-by-day path.
Day 1 – Establishing Access
Your first task is choosing a numbered room: 13, 14, 18, or 19. Each of those rooms has its own key hidden somewhere inside. After securing your room, head toward the white-walled corridor near the bathroom and search for the Old Bedroom. You can either lockpick it or locate the key in the Meeting Room.
Inside the Old Bedroom you’ll find the Green Door Key. From there:
- Use the Sculpting Room to obtain the Main Corridor Key.
- Visit the Dining Room to collect the Main Hall Key.
These items let you open almost the entire first floor, setting up the rest of your run.
Day 2 – Unlocking Storage
Head into Guest Room 1 and Guest Room 2. Between these two rooms you’ll find the Storage Key. Unlock the Storage Room and retrieve the Door Behind Planks Key. This key is essential for the next day.
Day 3 – Reaching the Planked Area
Go upstairs to the second floor. There’s a hallway lit with a red lamp where several wooden boards cover a door. On Day 3 those boards will be destroyed, letting you access the hidden area. Inside:
- Collect the Abandoned Room Key.
- Then locate the Library Key.
Head to the Library afterward and recover the Basement Key.
Day 4 – Entering the Basement
You’ll hear a loud crash when Day 4 begins. That sound signals the Basement unlocking. You can find the entrance near the Sculpting Room.
Inside the Basement is a puzzle. Solve it to earn the Under-Stairs Key. This key opens the locked crawlspace beneath the main hall staircase, located opposite the bathroom hallway. The final reward here is the Generator Room Key, which brings you closer to the endgame.
Understanding the Day System
The entire game revolves around managing your daylight. Every day shortens the amount of time you can explore before night arrives.
Daytime
The mansion is safest during the day. You can travel, search, loot, and unlock rooms without monster interference. However, daytime gets shorter each day. That means:
- Early days provide long exploration windows.
- By later days, you’ll barely have enough light to complete a few tasks.
There are two ways to gauge how close night is:
- The sky outside
When sunlight is bright, you’re safe to explore. As the sky darkens, move closer to your room. - Voodoo dolls
Using one immediately forces night to begin. This is useful when you’re unsure about the remaining daylight or want to skip directly to a new day.
Night and Midnight
Night itself doesn’t progress unless you sleep. Midnight begins after you sleep, lasting for three minutes. You cannot sleep again until midnight is over. This is when bed invasions occur, and where preparation is essential.
Items and Their Uses
Every item matters in LockYourDoor. Understanding them early saves a lot of trouble later.
Battery
Powers your flashlight, restoring roughly half of its meter per battery.
They also function as glowing markers—which is extremely helpful in dark hallways.
Hairpins
Used for lockpicking doors, drawers, and chests.
They respawn daily in unlocked drawers and are not lost permanently.
Walkie Talkie
Enables remote voice chat in cooperative play.
Cross
One of the most important defensive items in the game.
Uses:
- Slows down both the Maid and the Nightmare.
- Temporarily repels the Demon Nun.
- Protects your bed during midnight if placed on a protector.
You will want several of these on hand as the days progress.
Voodoo Doll
Triggers night instantly.
Also used to fast-forward days once your tasks are done. Cannot be used during night or midnight.
Lockpicking Explained
Lockpicking uses a bobbypin and the lock rotation keys.
- Rotate the pin until the lock begins to move.
- If the lock vibrates without turning, the pin is in the wrong position.
- When the lock rotates smoothly, you’re close to the correct angle.
- Find the exact spot and the lock will open fully.
There are practice chests at the start with eight bobbypins. Mastering lockpicks early makes the entire mansion far easier to navigate.
Bed Invasions and How They Work
Midnight is when the game becomes most dangerous. Every midnight, someone gets attacked, but who depends on how well players prepare.
- Door fully open = guaranteed you’ll be attacked.
- Door closed but unlocked = high chance of being targeted.
- All doors locked = random selection.
The attacker changes depending on the day:
Day 1 – Nightmare
Avoidable by locking your door.
Day 2 – Demon
Only a cross on a protector can defend you.
Day 3+ – Demon and Nightmare (if multiple players alive)
Door locks no longer stop the Nightmare, so open your wardrobe before sleeping to prevent it from spawning inside.
Monsters and How to Survive Them
There are three threat types in LockYourDoor. Each has unique detection rules and weaknesses.
1. Maid
Appears only at night. She is blind, relying entirely on sound.
- Running, slamming doors, or interacting loudly attracts her.
- Once she hears something, she walks to the sound source and stops to listen.
- When listening, any noise will trigger a chase.
- During a chase she is extremely fast, and crosses are your only reliable stall tactic.
Crouch-walking on carpets produces almost no sound, making them safe paths.
2. Demon
Passes straight through locked doors, but becomes very slow while doing so.
Key survival tactic:
- Break line of sight.
- Place doors between you and the demon to stall it.
- Activate a cross to banish it temporarily.
3. Nightmare
Has the best vision in the game and will sprint when it sees you.
- Slow when far away.
- Fast when you are close.
- Crosses weaken it long enough to create distance.
In emergencies, you can circle around furniture or loop through a player room until midnight ends.
General LockYourDoor Walkthrough Strategy and Survival Approach
Your daily routine should follow a simple pattern:
Explore aggressively during daytime.
Unlock rooms, gather keys, check drawers, and memorize layouts.
Prepare before sleeping.
Make sure your door is handled correctly, you have a cross ready, and your flashlight has enough charge.
Use midnight productively if safe.
If you avoided your bed invasion and the monsters haven’t reached you, midnight is a good chance to finish looting safely.
Drop surplus items where you can find them.
Items respawn every day, so saving backup batteries, crosses, or voodoo dolls on the ground is a very effective strategy.
Minimize sound.
Noise is what kills players more than monsters do. Crouch on carpets, close doors carefully, and avoid sprinting.
