When I first started playing Path of Kings, I honestly thought the game was much harder than it actually is. The beginning can feel slow, your hero dies often, equipment upgrades seem confusing, and the game constantly throws offers and ads in your face. For the first few maps, it almost feels like you’re falling behind unless you spend money.
After putting more time into the game, I realized that most progression problems come from a few common mistakes. Players rush stages too quickly, ignore PvP raids, neglect hero upgrades, and waste resources on stats that don’t help much early on.
If you’re just starting your journey, this Path of Kings Beginner Guide will help you avoid those mistakes and build a strong account without feeling stuck every few stages.
Heroes
The single biggest mistake new players make is focusing entirely on their starting hero.
Your first goal should not be upgrading equipment.
Your first goal should not be farming bosses.
Your first goal should be unlocking all three hero slots.
The difference between one hero and three heroes is massive.
With only one hero, you’ll often feel underpowered and may be tempted to watch ads for extra rewards just to keep progressing. Once you unlock two heroes, and especially after unlocking a full three-hero team, progression becomes much smoother.
PvP raids are one of the fastest ways to collect Hero Shards. Every five Hero Shards can unlock a new hero or improve an existing one through Star Up upgrades.
Even if a hero isn’t your favorite, filling every slot immediately is worth it.
A full team will always outperform a single overleveled hero.
Early Hero Priorities
For early progression, I had the most success using:
- Warrior
- Orc
- Elf
The Warrior provides balanced damage and survivability.
The Orc acts as your tank and absorbs punishment better than most early-game heroes.
The Elf provides extra damage through critical hits and combo attacks.
This combination gives you enough offense and defense to comfortably push through early maps.
Level Up
One thing the game never explains particularly well is how hero upgrades work.
Star Up and Level Up are completely different systems.
Level Up increases your hero’s stats directly.
This is where your attack, health, armor, and other important attributes improve.
Star Up unlocks additional abilities and boosts a hero’s overall potential but does not provide the same immediate stat increase that leveling does.
Before attempting difficult bosses, always check every hero and spend any available coins.
During my early playthrough, I lost several boss fights simply because I forgot to spend coins sitting in my inventory.
A few extra levels can make a surprisingly large difference.
Stats
Understanding stats makes equipment decisions much easier.
Some stats consistently provide more value than others.
Bleed
Bleed is one of the strongest mechanics in Path of Kings.
Whenever Bleed triggers, enemies continue taking damage after the initial attack.
Against bosses and tanky enemies, this extra damage adds up quickly.
Whenever I see Bleed as an upgrade option during PvP raids, I almost always take it.
Lifesteal
Lifesteal allows heroes to recover health while attacking.
This becomes incredibly powerful during long fights.
Heroes with Lifesteal can often survive battles they would normally lose.
Armor
Armor reduces incoming damage.
Simple, reliable, and effective.
Armor upgrades become especially noticeable during boss battles where every bit of survivability matters.
Health
More health means more room for mistakes.
Health is never a bad investment, especially on tank heroes.
Combo
Combo increases the chance of attacking multiple times.
Certain heroes can chain several attacks together when combo stats become high enough.
Critical Hit
Critical hits increase burst damage and work especially well on offensive heroes like Elf.
Toughness
Toughness reduces the chance of receiving critical hits.
While useful in some situations, I generally prioritize Bleed, Lifesteal, Armor, Health, or Combo before investing heavily into Toughness.
Accuracy
Accuracy reduces enemy dodge chances.
It has its uses, but it usually isn’t a priority during early progression.
Dodge
Dodge can occasionally save a fight, but I rarely choose it over stronger offensive or defensive stats.
Equipment
Equipment becomes increasingly important as you progress through the maps.
Many players make the mistake of focusing only on rarity.
Rarity matters, but stat combinations matter too.
A rare item with weak stats may not actually improve your build.
During my progression, I often skipped higher-rarity gear because the stat distribution didn’t fit my heroes.
Always compare the bonuses before equipping new items.
For example:
- Armor + Health is excellent for Orc.
- Crit + Combo works well on Elf.
- Damage-focused stats are useful for offensive heroes.
- Defensive stats are better on tanks.
Don’t automatically equip something just because its color is higher.
Look at the actual stats.
Forge
The Forge becomes available after reaching Map 15 and quickly turns into one of the most important progression systems.
Whenever a new hero joins your roster, they’ll usually have empty equipment slots.
The Forge helps solve that problem.
You can create equipment by combining crafting materials and waiting for the crafting timer to finish.
The rarity of materials directly affects the quality of equipment you can receive.
Common materials craft quickly but generally produce weaker gear.
Higher-quality materials take longer but offer a better chance at stronger equipment.
Whenever I unlock a new hero, I immediately visit the Forge and start filling empty gear slots.
Even average equipment provides a noticeable power increase.
PvP Raids
PvP raids are one of the best progression systems in the entire game.
The interesting thing is that many battles feel more like fighting AI-controlled teams rather than real players.
Whether that’s actually the case doesn’t matter much because the rewards are excellent.
PvP raids provide:
- Hero Shards
- Coins
- Equipment
- Faster progression toward new maps
If your goal is unlocking heroes quickly, PvP raids should become part of your daily routine.
When choosing upgrades during raids, my favorite priorities are:
- Bleed
- Lifesteal
- Armor
- Health
- Combo
- Critical Hit
These upgrades consistently provide the best results throughout progression.
Special Encounters
Special encounters can be tempting, especially when you’re offered extra rewards.
However, they become much safer after building a complete team.
When I only had one hero, I skipped almost every special encounter.
The risk simply wasn’t worth it.
After unlocking three heroes, I started taking more chances because the stronger team could handle unexpected fights.
If you’re still early in the game, don’t feel pressured to accept every encounter.
Sometimes the safest choice is simply moving forward.
Bosses
Bosses are where most players hit their first real progression wall.
Unlike regular enemies, bosses have enough health and damage to punish weak builds.
Before fighting any boss:
- Upgrade all heroes.
- Equip your best gear.
- Spend unused coins.
- Check forged equipment.
- Fill every hero slot.
One mistake I made early was challenging bosses immediately after unlocking them.
The smarter approach is spending a few minutes improving your team first.
Those extra upgrades often make the difference between victory and defeat.
From my experience, Holy bosses generally feel a little easier than some Devil bosses because they seem less likely to rely on dangerous effects like Bleed and Lifesteal.
Regardless of which boss you’re fighting, preparation matters more than rushing.
Maps
Progressing through maps unlocks nearly everything important in the game.
New heroes, additional systems, stronger rewards, and better equipment all become available through map progression.
If you’re stuck, don’t immediately assume you need to spend money.
Instead:
- Improve hero levels.
- Upgrade equipment.
- Complete PvP raids.
- Use the Forge.
- Collect daily rewards.
Most progression walls can be overcome simply by strengthening your roster.
Daily Rewards
Many players overlook the shop’s free rewards section.
Don’t.
The free rewards often include:
- Gold
- Equipment
- Crafting materials
These bonuses may not seem huge individually, but over time they add up.
Make it a habit to collect them whenever you log in.
Beginner Mistakes
The most common mistakes I see new players make are:
- Ignoring PvP raids
- Staying with one hero for too long
- Fighting bosses too early
- Forgetting to spend coins
- Equipping gear based only on rarity
- Ignoring the Forge
- Taking every special encounter
Avoid those mistakes and progression becomes significantly easier.
Path of Kings looks simple on the surface, but steady progression comes from building a balanced team and managing resources properly.
Unlock heroes as quickly as possible, prioritize Bleed and Lifesteal whenever available, keep your heroes upgraded, and don’t rush boss fights before preparing.
The players who progress fastest aren’t necessarily the ones spending the most money. They’re usually the players who understand how hero progression, equipment, and PvP rewards work together.
Build a strong three-hero team early, stay patient with upgrades, and you’ll move through the maps much faster than most new players.
