This guide explains exactly how to obtain the Hyperopia Badge in ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN, including how to unlock the confusing white triangle gate that blocks it.
Most guides simply show the badge on the map and leave it at that, but the real difficulty comes from figuring out how to access the area. The process requires a specific key, navigating Subspace correctly, and opening the right doors in a hidden hallway that most players completely miss.
If you spent a long time running around wondering why the gate won’t open, this is the full explanation you were probably looking for.
Before You Start (Important Requirements)
You must have already completed Chapter 4 (Town Hall ‘68) before attempting this.
This is because the badge sits behind optional white gates that only become accessible after finishing the chapter’s main progression, including unlocking certain TVs and traversal paths.
If you haven’t beaten Chapter 4 yet, you won’t be able to reach the necessary Subspace areas or interact with the required doors.
Hyperopia Badge Location
The badge itself is located on Floor 4F, right outside the Mayor’s Office.
When you arrive there, you’ll see a white gate with a triangle symbol blocking the hallway. This is the gate that confuses most players because there is no obvious switch nearby to open it.
Unlocking this gate requires finding a special key and opening a hidden Subspace door.
Finding the Jade Key
Your first task is obtaining a Jade Key, which is required to open one of the hidden Subspace doors.
To get it, go down to the Basement floor and look for the room marked with a pink star on the map. This room sits roughly in the center of the basement and is filled with shelving.
Search the corners of this room carefully — the Jade Key is usually placed in one of these corners rather than in a central location.
There is technically another Jade Key deeper in Subspace on the lowest layer, but most players will have already used that one to open another optional gate earlier in the chapter.
If you still have that extra key, you can skip this step, but otherwise you must retrieve the basement one.
Entering Subspace
Once you have the Jade Key, head to one of the TVs located in the basement and enter Subspace.
It doesn’t matter which TV you choose, since all of them eventually connect to the same lower Subspace layer.
If you enter from a different location, simply make your way to the bottom layer and look for a building with pink and green stairs running along its side. This structure is your starting reference point.
Navigating the Hidden Subspace Route
Climb the stairs and follow the only available path upward. Ignore ladders or side jumps you might see — they lead to unrelated areas and can cause confusion.
Once you reach the upper section, your goal is to travel west across the blue pathways until you arrive at a red building area.
From there, continue moving upward until you reach the entrance to a green and pink section.
This is where most players get lost, because the actual path forward isn’t obvious.
Inside this section, look toward the southeast exit and look down carefully. You should spot an isolated pillar that appears disconnected from the main paths.
This pillar is the hidden route.
Reaching the Hidden Hallway
Follow the narrow path leading up from the isolated pillar.
The first door you encounter opens a shortcut back to an earlier area, which is useful but not necessary for the badge.
Continue forward until you reach a ladder that leads up into a strange hallway area.
This hallway contains several doors — two immediately visible, and several more after turning the corner.
These doors are the key to unlocking the badge.
Opening the Correct Doors
Among the many doors in this hallway, two are particularly important.
The first important door unlocks a shortcut near the Mayor’s Office — specifically the room right before the boss encounter.
The second important door is the one that opens the triangle-symbol white gate that blocks access to the Hyperopia Badge.
Use your Jade Key to open the correct door marked with the triangle symbol. Once opened, the gate back in the real world will also unlock.
Collecting the Hyperopia Badge
After opening the necessary door, exit Subspace through the TV located near the shortcut you unlocked.
Back in the real world, head toward the Mayor’s Office area again.
You will now find the previously locked white gate open.
Enter the hallway behind it, where the Hyperopia Badge sits clearly visible.
There are a few enemies in this area, but nothing particularly dangerous.
Simply defeat or avoid them and collect the badge.
If you ever get lost while navigating Subspace, return to the pink-green stair building and retrace your route west toward the red building.
Always ignore side ladders unless you’re sure they’re part of the main route, since many lead to dead ends.
If the triangle gate remains locked after opening a door, double-check that you used the Jade Key on the correct one — only one specific door corresponds to the badge gate.
