Jumping into Soulmask 1.0 after launch feels exciting… but also a bit overwhelming. There’s a lot going on—masks, tribes, combat systems, base building—and if you don’t get the basics right early, things can feel slow or confusing fast.
So think of this guide like I’m sitting next to you, explaining what actually matters so you don’t waste time learning things the hard way.
Soulmask 1.0 Beginner Guide (Shifting Sands DLC)
Right at the start, the game asks you to pick a mode. This decision shapes your experience more than you think.
- Tribe Mode → Focuses on base building + defense
- Survival Mode → Best balanced experience (recommended for most players)
- Warrior Mode → Combat-heavy, less survival grind
If you’re new, just go Survival Mode. It gives you the full experience without overwhelming you in one direction.
Masks
The whole identity of Soulmask revolves around masks—and yeah, they’re not just cosmetic.
In Shifting Sands, you start with the Celestial Wings mask:
- Lets you fly
- Great for exploration
- Gives solid buffs overall
Later you’ll unlock more like:
- Water-focused masks (better mobility in water)
- Summoner-style masks (raise dead enemies)
- Combat-focused masks
Here’s the key mindset:
Always switch masks based on what you’re doing.
Exploring? Use mobility masks.
Fighting? Switch to combat buffs.
Also… don’t forget:
- Masks need energy (Sunstones)
- No energy = no abilities = you’re basically nerfed
Awareness Strength
This is basically your main progression stat, even more important than levels early on.
You gain it from:
- Fighting
- Crafting
- Gathering
- Building
What it does:
- Unlocks new tech
- Unlocks mask upgrades
- Progresses your overall power
Simple rule:
If you’re doing anything, you’re progressing.
So don’t overthink grinding—just stay active.
If You Get Stuck… Just Skip It
This is something most players don’t even realize.
If the game’s guidance system gives you a task and:
- It’s confusing
- It’s bugged
- Or just annoying
You can literally skip it and move on.
Use this smartly. Don’t skip everything, but don’t get stuck either.
Recruit Tribesmen
This is where Soulmask becomes fun instead of grindy.
Your tribe can:
- Gather resources
- Craft items
- Fight with you
- Automate boring tasks
But here’s the important part:
Every tribesman is different.
They have:
- Strengths (combat, mining, logging, etc.)
- Weaknesses
- Personality traits
So don’t just recruit randomly—assign roles properly.
Example:
- Good at mining → send to mine
- Strong fighter → bring into combat
Combat
At first, combat feels basic—but it actually has layers.
You’ve got:
- Light attacks
- Heavy attacks
- Dodging (very strong)
- Parrying (VERY important)
- Executes
If I had to give you one tip:
Learn parrying early.
It’s forgiving compared to hardcore games, and it can completely flip fights in your favor.
Beginner Weapon
Not mandatory, but highly recommended.
Why spear is strong:
- Hits multiple enemies
- Strong heavy attack
- Good range
- Has pull ability (drag enemies)
But still—experiment early and pick what feels natural.
Bring Your Tribe Into Combat
Your tribe isn’t just for base work.
You can:
- Take them into fights
- Give commands (F1–F8 keys)
- Let them farm enemies for you
Yes… even AFK farming works.
Just make sure they have:
- Weapons
- Armor
- Food
- Bandages
Otherwise they’ll die, and you’ll regret it.
Mask Upgrades
If you want stronger masks, you need:
- Crystals (from chests & exploration)
- Boss kills
- Strong enemy fights
So don’t just sit at base—go explore.
That’s where real progression happens.
Sunstones
Nothing feels worse than:
- Flying across the desert
- Running out of mask energy
- Falling or walking forever
Keep Sunstones on you. Always.
No exceptions.
Build an Airship
This is where the game opens up massively.
Airships let you:
- Travel fast
- Carry your base with you
- Respawn anywhere
- Fight in the air
And here’s the smart move:
Turn your airship into a mobile base
Add:
- Crafting stations
- Storage
- Beds
- Campfire (for respawn)
Now you don’t need to keep going back and forth across the map.
