Tombwater is one of those games where figuring things out yourself is part of the experience. Most of the time, if you’re stuck, it’s because you missed a path, a switch, or a shortcut earlier.
This is a vague, mostly spoiler-free walkthrough meant to nudge you in the right direction without ruining the exploration. If you’re completely lost, just skim the section you’re on and it should point you forward.
Tombwater Walkthrough & Beginenr Guide Wiki
The intro is linear, so just play through it normally.
After that, you’ll choose a class. Each one leans into a different damage type:
- Strength → melee
- Mind → spells
- Gunslinging → firearms
- Alchemy → crafted items
You can use anything with any class, but you’ll get better results if you stick to your strengths early on.
Also, check your inventory right away — some classes start with useful tools or spells that aren’t equipped by default.
Central District
You start at Tombwater Station. Talk to the NPC by the campfire — he gives you a map and can point you in the right direction later.
From here:
- Head south out of the station
- Follow the path past the bridge and up toward the cathedral
- Move through the courtyard and open shortcuts where possible
- You’ll pass through a building and eventually reach sewer tunnels
In the sewers, you’ll meet a boss you’re not expected to beat. Falling into the hole is normal and part of progression.
After getting back out:
- Head east through a burned section of town
- Continue toward the circus area
- Solve the tent puzzle by activating switches and pulling the chain mechanism
This leads to your first proper boss. Beat it and continue south to reach the next area.
Canyon Settlement
This area branches a bit, but the main path is straightforward.
- Find the campfire early
- Explore nearby buildings for loot (there’s a useful gun here)
- Move through bridges and buildings toward a saloon
Inside the saloon, you’ll get a quest pointing toward a distant fort (you’ll get there later).
From here:
- Unlock shortcuts in the windmill
- Use the elevator and move through the boarding house
- Head south to progress
Canyon Floor (Key Item Area)
This section is more linear.
- Head east first (west is blocked)
- Watch for strong enemies
- Find the campfire and ring the bellpost
The important part here is inside the mausoleum.
You’ll get the Wraith Shot, which is required for progression. It lets you:
- Burn obstacles
- Light torches
- Interact with certain mechanics
Once you have it, head back west.
Thistle Gulch
This is a large open area, but you can stick to the main route.
- Move south past enemies and encounters
- Cross a bridge and ring another bellpost
- Enter the ranch area
Inside the ranch:
- Navigate barns and rooftops
- Find the Ranch Hand’s key
- Unlock the gate in the fields
This loops you back and gives access to the boss. Defeat it and head north.
Lake District & Bleakpool Woods
From the docks:
- Use the water paths to reach buildings and unlock gates
- Make your way around the lake toward the west side
You’ll fight a boss before entering Bleakpool Woods.
In the woods:
- Burn spiderwebs using fire (Wraith Shot works)
- Follow the winding path northeast
This leads to the Spanish Fort.
Spanish Fort (Dungeon Area)
This is more structured.
- Find the campfire in the courtyard
- Work through rooms, unlocking shortcuts and switches
- Solve the rotating bell puzzle
Here you’ll get Climbing Gear, which lets you scale walls.
Later:
- Explore dungeons below
- Solve symbol puzzles
- Defeat the boss
You’ll receive a key that leads you forward.
Lake District (Return Path)
This section connects multiple areas.
- Head back toward the docks
- Move northeast through bridges and tunnels
- Unlock shortcuts as you go
Eventually, you’ll reach the Mayor’s Residence and then access the mining route.
Mining Camp
Another dungeon-style area.
- Explore both upper and lower paths
- Use switches and navigate machinery
After defeating a boss, you’ll get the Hookcaster, which allows grappling across gaps.
Next, you need to activate three systems:
- Air intake
- Steam bellows
- Ignition key
Once all are done, activate the furnace and proceed to the boss.
Blackbark Forest & Vauxhall Estate
Return to earlier areas and head east.
- Move through the forest path
- Unlock the estate using the key
Inside the estate:
- Explore rooms and collect keys
- Use Wraith Shot on vine-covered effigies
- Progress through basement, attic, and library
You’ll eventually get Wraith Coal, which lets you dash across special flames.
Destroy all effigies to unlock the boss. Defeat it and collect the mine gate key.
The Mines
Make sure you have a lantern before going in.
Inside:
- Navigate dark tunnels
- Avoid an enemy that can’t be killed
- Burn webs and use abilities to move forward
In deeper sections:
- Activate generators
- Escape the creature
- Use minecarts and shortcuts
This leads to the final area.
The Deep City (Final Area)
- Use movement abilities to cross dangerous terrain
- Unlock gates and shortcuts
- Navigate buildings and upper walkways
Eventually, you’ll reach the final boss.
Defeat it to finish the game.
Final Note
Even after the credits, there’s more.
If you explore past earlier areas (like near the Cathedral), you can trigger additional content and another possible ending.
If you’re stuck in Tombwater, it’s usually because:
- You missed a shortcut
- Skipped an item
- Didn’t explore an earlier path
Use this guide as a reference, not a step-by-step. The game is much better when you figure things out yourself — this just helps when you hit a wall.
