If you have just started playing Subnautica 2, one of the first things you will probably notice is how important blueprint fragments are. Almost every useful tool, base piece, or survival item requires scanning fragments before you can actually craft it. The problem is that the game does not always tell you exactly where to look, and because this is Early Access, some fragment locations seem partially randomized between saves.
This guide covers the blueprint fragments that players are finding early in the game right now, along with some beginner-friendly tips to help you locate them faster without wasting time swimming around blindly. Since the game is still in development, some locations may change later, but these are the most reliable spots currently known.
Where To Find Blueprint Fragments in Subnautica 2
Before you start searching everywhere, it is important to know that many blueprint fragments in Subnautica 2 appear to work similarly to the older Subnautica games. Some fragments seem guaranteed, while others may spawn in slightly different spots depending on your world seed.
That means if you cannot find an item in the exact same location listed below, do not panic. Check the nearby area carefully because the fragment is often still close to the intended location.
Also, remember that you need a Scanner before collecting any fragments. Without it, you will not be able to unlock blueprints at all.
Habitat Builder Fragment Location
The Habitat Builder is easily one of the most important tools in the entire game because it allows you to start building proper underwater bases. If you enjoy base building, storage organization, or just having a safe home underwater, this should be one of your top priorities early on.
You need two fragments to fully unlock the blueprint.
The first fragment is guaranteed and very easy to get. You can find it inside a box just outside the Welcome Center door. This one is basically placed there to guide new players toward the base-building progression.
Once scanned, you will need to locate the second fragment somewhere nearby. Players have reported finding it placed on a table beneath part of the Welcome Center structure. Because fragment placement may vary slightly, make sure to check tables, corners, and debris carefully around the area instead of swimming past too quickly.
One helpful tip is to revisit the Welcome Center during daytime. Visibility underwater becomes much clearer, making fragments easier to notice against the environment.
Also, after you already own all required fragments, scanning duplicate pieces will reward you with Titanium instead. That can actually be useful early on since Titanium is constantly needed for crafting.
Dining Table Fragment Location
The Dining Table is one of those decorative base items that many players may ignore at first, but if you enjoy making your underwater base feel cozy and realistic, it is a nice early unlock.
The first fragment appears inside the Welcome Center shortly after entering through the broken hatch. In the first room, you should spot the table flipped sideways on the floor. Scan it to make progress toward the blueprint.
At the moment, additional fragment locations are still somewhat unclear because the game launched recently and players are still exploring. Some people report finding extra pieces in nearby wrecks, while others have not seen additional fragments yet at all.
If you are specifically hunting for decorative furniture blueprints, it is a good idea to thoroughly search damaged interiors and abandoned rooms. Decorative fragments often blend into the environment more than functional equipment does.
Biolab Fragment Location
The Biolab blueprint is thankfully much simpler to unlock.
You only need a single fragment in the current Early Access version of the game. Conveniently, it can be found right beside the Dining Table fragment inside the Welcome Center.
Once scanned, the blueprint unlocks immediately.
Because both fragments are so close together, it is worth spending a few extra minutes fully exploring the Welcome Center instead of rushing through it. A lot of early players accidentally miss useful scans simply because they move too quickly through the first structure.
Beacon Fragment Location
Beacons are extremely useful in Subnautica 2, especially once you start exploring caves, wrecks, and deeper biomes. Trust me, after a few hours of gameplay, everything underwater starts looking the same and it becomes surprisingly easy to lose track of important locations.
One Beacon fragment can be found near the wreck close to the Welcome Center. Look for a box sitting below a NOA audio log upload location.
Another fragment can reportedly be found in the same wreck area. Make sure to check both the outer debris and interior sections carefully because small fragments can easily hide among broken metal pieces and containers.
As soon as you unlock Beacons, start placing them near important caves, resource zones, and wrecks. Future exploration becomes much easier when you can navigate using your own markers instead of pure memory.
Dive Elevator Fragment Location
The Dive Elevator requires two fragments before crafting becomes available.
One of the fragments can be found inside the wreck near the Welcome Center, directly across from the Beacon fragment location. Most players should notice it fairly quickly because the fragment is not especially hidden compared to some of the smaller scans in the game.
Still, it helps to slow down and fully inspect the wreck instead of only checking obvious paths. Sometimes fragments are attached to walls, partially hidden behind debris, or resting underneath broken structures.
If you are struggling with oxygen while searching wrecks, bring extra Oxygen Plants or craft additional tanks before attempting long exploration runs.
Flashlight Fragment Location
The Flashlight is one of the most important survival tools during the early game because visibility underwater can become terrible inside caves and wreck interiors.
Unlike some other blueprints, Flashlight fragments appear to be scattered around the starting biome rather than tied to one guaranteed location.
Many players, including early testers, have found fragments inside caves below the lifepod area. If you are searching for them, start by exploring the cave systems directly underneath your spawn point.
Take your time while searching because Flashlight fragments can be surprisingly small and easy to overlook against cave walls.
A useful beginner trick is to search caves during daylight hours from above first. Sunlight penetrating the water often helps reveal cave entrances you might otherwise miss.
Portable Storage Box Location
The Portable Storage Box is incredibly helpful during the early hours because inventory space fills up very quickly in Subnautica 2.
Instead of unlocking this through traditional fragment scanning, you simply need to find one.
A Portable Storage Box can usually be found inside the cave directly beneath the lifepod, resting near an Oxygen Plant. Once discovered, the blueprint unlocks for crafting.
This is one of the best early-game quality-of-life items because it lets you carry additional resources during long gathering trips without constantly swimming back to base.
Honestly, getting this early makes resource farming far less annoying.
