If you’ve updated to the Monolith version of the game (from the beta), you’ve probably noticed a brand-new feature: the Equipment Editor. It’s a sleek, dedicated menu just for weapons and armor. Sounds exciting, right? The catch? Everything is locked by default, and each item teases you with a message: “Find a creature with this item first.”
At first, I did it the intended way—letting civilizations grow, checking creatures one by one, hunting down the gear manually. It was fun… until it got repetitive.
Then I stumbled upon a small method—possibly a bug or maybe a hidden treat from the developer—that lets you unlock these items without actually discovering them through gameplay. It doesn’t work on genetics or features, only on weapons and armor, but it’s a massive timesaver.

Step-by-Step: Unlocking Gear Without Finding It
1. Select a Creature
Start by choosing any creature. You don’t need a special type or one that already has gear.
2. Open the Info Panel
Click on the button that opens the main info screen for that creature. This gives you access to various menus, including the Equipment Editor.
3. Enter the Equipment Editor
Inside the info screen, find and click the Equipment Editor button. You’ll now see the list of weapons and armor. Most of them will be grayed out and locked.
4. Find a Locked Item
Hover your cursor over any item that is locked. It should display the message: “Find a creature with this item first.” This is normal.
5. Click and Hold on the Locked Item
Now, here’s the trick: Click and hold your mouse on the locked item you want to unlock. Don’t let go yet.
6. Drag the Item Left or Right
While still holding, slide the item sideways—either left or right. Think of it like rearranging apps on a phone’s home screen. As you do this, you’ll see a faint white-yellow smoke animation.
7. Let Go and Move the Cursor Away
Once the item has shifted, release the mouse click and move your cursor away from the item for a moment.
8. Hover Back and Click to Select
When you move your cursor back over the item, its name will now be visible. It’s no longer hidden.
Click on it once, and it will behave like any unlocked item. Select it and it becomes permanently available.
Once you get used to the movement and timing, each item takes about 3 seconds to unlock. This means you can unlock the full set of weapons and armors fairly quickly without needing to explore endlessly.
I personally used this method only after unlocking about a third of the items legitimately. The initial discovery phase is fun and rewarding, and skipping it entirely might make the experience feel too easy.
Use this approach when you feel the fun is being replaced by busywork.
